«عیسی در پاسخ گفت: «مگر نخوانده‌اید که آفرینندۀ جهان در آغاز ”ایشان را مرد و زن آفرید“، و گفت ”از همین رو، مرد پدر و مادر خود را ترک کرده، به زن خویش خواهد پیوست و آن دو یک تن خواهند شد“؟ بنابراین، از آن پس دیگر دو نیستند بلکه یک تن می‌باشند. پس آنچه را خدا پیوست، انسان جدا نسازد.» (متی ۱۹: ۴-۶)

«همچنین گفته شده که ”هر که زن خود را طلاق دهد، باید به او طلاقنامه‌ای بدهد.“ امّا من به شما می‌گویم، هر که زن خود را جز به‌علت بی‌عفتی طلاق دهد، باعث زناکار شدن او می‌گردد؛ و هر که زن طلاق داده شده را به زنی بگیرد، زنا می‌کند.» (متی ۵: ۳۱، ۳۲)

ایمان، ضامن چیزهایی است که بدان امید داریم و برهان آنچه هنوز نمی‌بینیم. به سبب ایمان بود که دربارۀ پیشینیان به نیکویی شهادت داده شد. به ایمان درمی‌یابیم که کائنات به وسیلۀ کلام خدا شکل گرفت، بدان‌گونه که آنچه دیده می‌شود از چیزهای دیدنی پدید نیامد. (عبرانیان ۱۱: ۱-۳)
