The Ten Commandments in the Tawrat, Injil, and Qur’an

The Qur’an speaks about when Allah gave Moses the ten commandments written on the 2 Tablets, and Allah said that in them you will all kind of enlightenments and decisive explanation of all things  “And We inscribed for him in the Tablets all kinds of enlightenments, and decisive explanation of all things. ‘Hold fast to them, and exhort your people to adopt the best of them…’.” (Al-Aaraf 7: 145) The Qur’an goes forward and speak about the second copy of these Tablets, “When the anger abated in Moses, he took up the tablets. In their transcript is guidance and mercy for those in awe of their Lord” (Al-Aaraf 7: 154), you find in them guidance and mercy. Let us look at the Ten Commandments:

The First Commandment:
“You shall have no other gods before me.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 3)

´ “Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only’.” (Injil Mattthew 4: 10).

´“Do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity and [thereby] become censured and forsaken.” (Q. . Al-Isra 17: 22)

The Second Commandment:
´“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 4-6)

´“Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.” (Injil Romans 1: 24-25)

´“So do not assert similarities to Allah . Indeed, Allah knows and you do not know.” (Q.. Al-Nahl 16: 74)

The Third Commandment:
´“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 7)

´“But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.” (Injil Mathew. 5: 34-35) (Injil Matthew. 12: 36)

´“And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.” (Q. . Al-Araf 7: 180)

The Forth Commandment:
´“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 8-11)

´“He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read.” (Injil Luke 4: 16)

´“Indeed, your Lord is Allah , who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah , Lord of the worlds.” (Q. . Al-Araf 7: 54)

´“And you had already known about those who transgressed among you concerning the Sabbath, and We said to them, “Be apes, despised.” And We made it a deterrent punishment for those who were present and those who succeeded [them] and a lesson for those who fear Allah .” (Q. . Al-Baqara 2: 65-66)

´“And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, “Enter the gate bowing humbly”, and We said to them, “Do not transgress on the Sabbath”, and We took from them a solemn covenant.” (Q. . Al-Nisa 4: 154)

The Fifth Commandment:
´“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 12)

´“Honor your father and mother…” (Injil Matthew 19: 19)

´“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff,” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.” (Q.. Al-Isra 17: 23)

The Sixth Commandment:
´“You shall not murder.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 13)

´“Jesus replied, ‘You shall not murder…” (Injil Matthew 19: 18)

The Seventh Commandment:
´“You shall not commit adultery.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 14)

´“And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.” (Q. . Al-Isra 17: 32)

The Eighth Commandment:
´“You shall not steal.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 15)

´“Jesus replied, You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal…” (Injil Matthew 19: 18)

´“And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or send it [in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of the wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful].” (Q.. Al-Baqara 2: 188)

The Ninth Commandment:
´“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 16)

´“Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony.” (Injil Matthew 19: 18)

´“Destroyed are the falsifiers” (Q.. Al-Tharyat 51: 10)

´“That [has been commanded], and whoever honors the sacred ordinances of Allah – it is best for him in the sight of his Lord. And permitted to you are the grazing livestock, except what is recited to you. So avoid the uncleanliness of idols and avoid false statement” (Q. . Al-Haj 22: 30)

The Tenth Commandment:
´“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.” (Tawrat Exodus 20: 17)

´“The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Injil Romans 13: 9)

´“And do not approach the property of an orphan, except in the way that is best, until he reaches maturity. And fulfill [every] commitment. Indeed, the commitment is ever [that about which one will be] questioned.” (Q.. Al-Isra 17: 34)
