Prayer is not just a time to ask for what we want, and praying when we want something should not be the only time we pray\u00a0.We are told by Isa Al Masih,\u00a0“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. ” <\/span><\/span>(Matthew 6:33)<\/strong> Allah knows our hearts, He knows our circumstances, He knows when we have\u00a0 done wrong even if we don’t repent. But it is through developing a relationship with Him that all of the things we desire begin to work out, sometimes not according to how we see them, but how HE sees fit. <\/strong><\/p>\n A thought to ponder: What if your friends and family only ever came to you to ask something from you. What if that was the only time they took out of their day to speak to you? How would you feel? \nIn Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus teaches us how to pray Allah\u2019s prayer. This prayer is not meant to substitute for our personal prayer time with Allah, nor is it a transcript to be recited, but rather, it is a prayer to Allah to seek His will and guidance in our lives. The message bears much more weight than the way the words are spoken.
\n\u201cWhen you pray, don\u2019t be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get.\u00a0\u00a0But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.<\/span>
\n\u201cWhen you pray, don\u2019t babble on and on as the Gentiles do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him!\u00a0Pray like this<\/span>:
\nOur Father in heaven,
\nmay your name be kept holy.
\nMay your Kingdom come soon.
\nMay your will be done on earth,
\nas it is in heaven.
\nGive us today the food we need,
\nand forgive us our sins,
\nas we have forgiven those who sin against us.
\nAnd don\u2019t let us yield to temptation,
\nbut rescue us from the evil one.<\/p>\n
\nEver since we were children, we always wanted a best friend that can be with us when we need them to listen to us, advise us, and to love us. Isa Al Masih is the real life best friend that we have always desired. More importantly, His relationship with us always existed! It is our lack of knowing Him or our disconnect that contributes to a less than close relationship. But He even said Himself that He will never turn away those that come to Him.<\/p>\n
\nThose are the words of Jesus Himself. All we have to do is believe, and Allah does the rest.<\/p>\n
\nIn order to have a personal relationship with our Creator, we should\u00a0understand who Jesus is. Jesus is both in the Quran and the Bible, two different and yet similar accounts but both descriptions are God inspired, and, therefore, looking into the Bible to understand Jesus reveals to us a more illustrative picture of Allah.<\/p>\n
\nIn order to establish a relationship with Allah, prayer is absolutely essential. We often forget that spending time with God requires as much effort as we make to spend time with our family and friends. Furthermore, it is the most important relationship to take care of. It is not meant to be a time to recite any specific prayer, but a personal prayer in which we fully consecrate ourselves to Allah.<\/p>\n
\nOften times, we pray for things in our lives, be it a new job, a spouse, healing, financial help, maybe even a new puppy. Whatever the reason, seeking Allah because we want something is not the sole reason to go to Him. We go to Him first, simply seeking Him, His presence, His guidance, and everything will be added to us.<\/strong><\/p>\n
